There are several types of vendors in the gemstone trade.
One type of vendor is a business man who understands they
purchased something at $1 and needs to resell the item for
$3 making a profit using whatever technique available many
sometimes lacking integrity or not being completely honest..
The less common type of vendor are the gemological specialist
in their field who's first priority are their clients interests
and not their own. We are professionals who search long term
relationships in our trade. We will help our clients avoid
buying problematic gemstones and make the best possible investments.
We understand the industry from both a business and gemological
perspective.
Our company,
KashmirBlue, prefers to use the same laboratories as the major
auction houses (NY, Geneva and Hong Kong) (www.christies.com
& www.sothebys.com). The world's reputable auction houses
require certificates on every high value gemstone from one
of the following laboratories: GIA (Gemological Institute
of America), EGL (European Gemological Laboratory), Gubelin
Gemmological Laboratory (Switzerland), SSEF (Swiss Gemological
Institute), GRS (Gemological Research Switzerland), and AGL,
NY (American Gemological Laboratories). Smaller independent
or local laboratories usually lack the budgets to purchase
and maintain the more sophisticated equipment to test gemstone
treatments and or lack the experience and have inadequate
databases from which to compare gemstones of origins.
