This Kashmir rough was professional carved by California
native Ronald Stephens. His superb craftsmanship sells
in the major auction houses.
The carving is thermally enhanced (heat) to increase
the depth of blue. The treatment is permanent and common
to 99% of sapphire in the world today. The carved leaves
could be set as earrings or used as accents to a fine
centerstone in a ring. The reason you do not see heat
treated Kashmir sapphire in the world is there is no rough
available. Mining ceased almost 100 years ago.
This sample was carved from two different specimen
6-9cts in size. This rough sample was purchased in the
1920's in Delhi. Our friends grandfather was a pilot in
the Air Force at that time. He purchased a small collection
of lighter blue specimen. We are personally documenting
the rough as we thermally enhance the color in our high
temperature gas combustion furnace.
