A stunning matched pair of Kashmir sapphires. This combination
of pairs matches the antique ring RG10343 to make a rare
suite. (Ring & Earrings)
Most old Kashmir sapphire are cushion in shape.
The emerald cut shape is rare because Kashmir stones commonly
show zoning and cutting this shape is more difficult.
This particular pair shows no zoning. They are perfect
crystals. The silk is moderate to light with an
80% tone. We track the auction houses, and matched
pairs are increasingly rare.
AGL (New York, NY) Full Summary Report (below):
Matched Pair Rating Very Good, Color 2.5, Tone 80%, Color
Zoning N/A (none), Faint Dichroic Effect, Clarity LI1
(Each stone has a 'natural' on the pavilion which can
be seen with a loupe. Otherwise, they are Internally flawless).
See the photo micrographs below displaying flawless
clarity. However, if the stones were truelly flawless
they could not be identified as Kashmir. The crystal
at left displays a few silk lines which are distinguishable
from all other origins. The stone at right displays
classic zoning and this same variety of silk "comet
rays."
Our
past experience buying and selling Kashmir sapphire includes
attendance and purchase from the Jammu & Kashmir Minerals
Ltd. auction, selling Kashmir sapphire at international
auction, and living in Kashmir to document and actively
track current activity.
